Dr. Kate Alexandra, DMA (she/her) is a solo, chamber, and orchestral double bass performer and educator with a passion for social justice, inclusion, and representation. Kate has performed with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Concert Nova’s Party of Note Chamber Series, Cincinnati Soundbox, and many more ensembles. She is a member of the Chicago Federation of Musicians, local 10-208.


Most recently, Kate and pianist Sevgi Giles presented a pop and classical music concert for the residents at Trulee Evanston with more recitals planned for this Spring. In 2025, she served as the principal bass substitute for the Carmel Symphony Orchestra during their “DRAMA! Beethoven & Brahms” concert with conductor, Kelly Corcoran.
Other performance highlights include engagements the Sing Sangit with Shanti Choir and Opera of Cincinnati, Fillmore Wind Band, and as a professional fellow with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. She has also performed at Swanee Summer Music Festival and PRISMA Festival (formerly known as Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific).


Kate has presented recitals and lecture-recitals at notable conferences like International Society of Bassists (ISB), American String Teachers Association (ASTA), and the University of Cincinnati. At the 2023 ISB Conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kate and Dr. Christina Lalog Seal presented “Putting the ‘Us’ in Music: A World Premiere Recital of Six New Works by Women Composers.”

In 2010, and again in 2012, Kate received the Katherine Anne Suber Whiton Memorial Scholarship in String Bass from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
